There’s no denying that we’re in the middle of a mental health epidemic. Our fast-paced, modern lifestyles aren’t good for us and the pressures of work, family and other commitments are costing us our health.
15.4 million working days are lost each year in the UK due to stress, depression and anxiety (this is according to LSF self-reported estimates, so the actual number is likely even higher).
We all have a responsibility to protect ourselves from the harmful effects of stress as well as preventing burnout and poor mental health. There is plenty that you can do by developing healthy coping mechanisms and habits, including simple and effective relaxation techniques and mindfulness exercises to reduce stress, build resilience and feel more empowered and in control of your everyday life.
Since mindfulness has been introduced as a practice in western society, countless scientific studies have been carried out, proving its effectiveness in supporting physical and mental health by:
- Reducing stress and stress-related symptoms (such as high blood pressure, headaches and muscle tension)
- Reducing chronic pain and emotional response to pain
- Reducing depression and anxiety
- Improving sleep
- Improving social interactions and relationships
- Improving cognition, concentration and focus
- Reducing feelings of irritability and argumentativeness
- Reducing feelings of overwhelm
- Reducing worry and overly self-critical thoughts
- Slowing down the effects of ageing in the body’s cells, including brain cells
Mindfulness can be practised by anyone, anywhere. It doesn’t need to take up a lot of time and can easily be integrated into your lifestyle in a way that suits you.
I offer corporate wellbeing education packages, incorporating mindfulness, stress-reduction, mental health and emotional wellness tools. I can create a tailor made one off talk, workshop or a suitable number of sessions, including information, guided mindfulness practice and q&a.
